Jubilee to Campaign for ODM Candidate in Migori Senatorial Race

Jubilee party will campaign for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate in the Migori Senatorial by-election, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has said.

Speaking on Monday, Sakaja said the ruling party decided not to field a candidate for the seat because they are confident the candidate selected by ODM leader Raila Odinga was the best.

The Senator said Jubilee leaders will join ODM in drumming up support for former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayako once campaigns kick off.

“We decided that, as Jubilee, we will have no candidate because we’re supporting the choice of Baba [Raila Odinga] due to the handshake,” he said.

“Let us not allow anyone to bring divisive politics. This is a new Kenya. Unity of the people, inclusivity and integrity. We will not allow any politician to derail the journey President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga began,” he added.

This comes a day after Ford-Kenya party leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula endorsed People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Solomon Hodo for the seat.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared six candidates to run for the Migori county senate by-election scheduled for October 8th, 2018..

The six include Dr. Ochilo Ayako (ODM), Jobando Peter Osikeo (Green Congress Party of Kenya), Ogolla Dickson Ogolla (Independent), Eddy Gicheru Oketch (Federal Party of Kenya),Otieno Samwel Otieno (Independent), and Rugaria Solomon Hodo (PDP.)

The seat fell vacant after former senator Ben Oluoch Okello died in Nairobi in June after a long battle with cancer.
