Once again, public schools in Nyanza have demonstrated their excellence by producing the majority of the top performers in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
In Kisii, Homa Bay, and Migori counties, it was the private schools that outshone the public ones. Rae-Kanyaika Primary School, a lesser-known establishment in Kisumu amazed the region by producing the highest-scoring candidate, Ochola Felix Omondi. He scored 426 marks, falling short by the slightest margin to the national leading scorer from Riara Springs Academy in Nairobi, Michael Warutere, who scored 428 marks. Mr Paul Odhiambo, who is the head teacher of the Rae-Kanyaika Primary School, mentions that 167 students took the exams in the school. The Imperial Primary School, located in Kisii, has also distinguished itself by having Maraquilla Nyamasenge and Samson Kinara each obtain scores of 423 marks.
It’s worth noting that the school had 29 pupils who scored over 400 marks – an impressive feat. St. Andrew Kaggwa had one standout candidate, Orina Okumu Felix who achieved the same exceptional score of 423 as the aforementioned pupils. Other commendable students include Omboga Matonda who scored 422 marks, and a total of 45 pupils who received scores above 400. After these outstanding results, Head Teacher Peter Nyamweya is filled with delight and absolute satisfaction. In another example of academic excellence, 36 candidates at Eronge Adventist Boarding Primary School achieved over 400 marks with Ombaye Nyamanyara Trevor landing the highest score of 413.
Mr. Bwana discloses that 289 candidates out of the 350 achieved a score between 300 to 399 marks, with 2 falling short of the 300 mark. In Kisii, several schools, including The Precious Hope, Imperial Primary, Excel Elementary School, Olympic Junior, Maxwell Academy Campus, and Sunlight Academy Nyamache, witnessed outstanding student performances. At Maxwell Academy, Daniel Osano Rogito overcame great adversity, scoring an impressive 410 marks despite suffering burns on his limbs and neck.
