Karua Says Self Entitlement Cost Kalonzo Azimio Running Mate Slot

Nark-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has broken her silence about Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s decision to ditch the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition.

Musyoka quit the alliance and announced he will vie for the presidency after Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga settled on Karua as his running mate in the August 9th State House race. 

Musyoka, who insisted that he should be the automatic pick for the slot, unveiled Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli as his running mate, claiming that Odinga shortchanged him.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, Karua said she was determined to remain in the coalition regardless of whether Odinga picked her as his running mate or not, unlike Musyoka who she claims exhibited entitlement to the offer.

“I went into the running mate interviews with an open mind and commitment to belong to Azimio regardless of the outcome. Musyoka had made it his business to impose himself on the ticket,” she said.

Karua expressed confidence that she will have a good working relationship with Odinga if they ascend to power in August, describing the ODM party leader as her “political soulmate” with whom they agree on fundamental ideas.

“We only differ with his sycophants, not him as a man. When I speak to Odinga, we rhyme on the structural foundations of ideas. Implementation of the same ideas needs constructive engagement and consensus. You need not get worried that my temperament will lead to me walking out on Odinga,” said Karua.

“I will totally submit myself to Odinga and I will subordinate myself to him since as a lawyer who is a senior counsel, I know what is a deputy President, functions and limits.”

Karua faulted Deputy President William for taking his differences with President Kenyatta to the media and launching what she termed as rebellious campaigns.

“Nothing needs to be changed. We only need character reform on the officeholder. The current holder took his differences to the media and launched rebellious campaigns. In times of differences, we are supposed to internally reconcile and that will be my relationship with my boss,” she added.
