Authorities are investigating a mysterious death that occurred at a prominent eatery in Westlands, Nairobi.
The establishment’s management confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, December 13. The inquiry was triggered by CCTV footage that surfaced online, showing a casual worker found dead in an elevator on the morning of Thursday, December 5. Despite the elapsed time, the exact cause of death remains unknown, raising concerns over the investigation’s pace and transparency.
The incident has been reported to the Parklands Police Station.
Management at the eatery has expressed their commitment to fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure a comprehensive investigation. They also urge the public to refrain from disseminating unverified information and images, emphasizing the sensitivity of the case and the need to respect the family of the deceased.
“The police and our security team are closely collaborating to investigate the situation, and we remain fully supportive of their efforts to ensure a thorough and fair inquiry. We kindly urge everyone to respect the deceased and their family by refraining from sharing images or information related to the incident. Such actions are deeply insensitive and only add to the grief of those affected,” the statement reads.
As the police have yet to provide any official updates regarding the progress of the investigation, public interest continues to grow. This incident occurs against the backdrop of increasing violence in Kenya, where, in the first three quarters of 2024, 339 murders have been reported, reflecting a slight rise from the previous year. The country is facing a variety of violence-related issues, ranging from domestic homicides and gender-based violence to targeted killings.
Meanwhile, police in Nakuru County are investigating a murder case involving a 50-year-old father allegedly attacked and killed by his wife and son. The victim reportedly suffered severe injuries from being doused with sulfuric acid during a domestic dispute on the evening of December 11. Authorities arrested the suspects for questioning and recovered a container believed to have contained the acid. The victim’s body has been transferred to a local mortuary awaiting autopsy, while the suspects are set to be arraigned.
