The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has announced the State’s intention to pursue murder charges against DJ Joe Mfalme.

This development comes as authorities investigate the death of Felix Kelian Kintosi, a Deputy Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO). Mfalme, alongside six others, appeared before Magistrate Margaret Murage in Kibera for a hearing regarding their potential involvement in Kintosi’s demise. The group includes Mfalme’s employees – Allan Ochieng, Erick Kariuki Gathua, and Simon Wambugu Wanjiru – as well as Kikuyu Police Station officers – Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich, and Agnes Kerubo Mugoi.

Citing the case’s complexity, prosecutor Lawrence Mutune requested a 21-day detention period for all seven individuals. Lead investigator Fredrick Kosen revealed that the victim’s brother Reinhard Kintosi reported his death. The incident unfolded following a car accident on Kikuyu Road, near the Kikuyu Police Station. According to initial reports, Kintosi was allegedly assaulted by Mfalme and his employees after the accident. Traffic officer Wako arrived at the scene and reportedly witnessed the attack.

Kintosi succumbed to his injuries on March 21, 2024, having previously exhibited abdominal pain. The investigation further led to the apprehension of two additional police officers Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mugoi, who were stationed at the Kikuyu Police Station desk on the day the assault was reported. As the investigation progresses, authorities plan to conduct a mental evaluation of the accused at Mama Lucy Hospital. Additionally, the investigation file will be submitted to the DPP for a final determination on the most appropriate charges to be filed against each individual.
