Raila Odinga New Unveils New Game Plan Against Ruto

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has revealed a comprehensive strategy to exert pressure on President William Ruto’s administration, focusing on the removal of burdensome taxes, including the contentious housing levy.

Odinga’s coalition plans to champion petitioners in ongoing legal battles while contemplating a resurgence of street protests, reminiscent of those staged last year before entering discussions with the government. Scheduled for Friday, a significant political rally at Nairobi’s historic Kamkunji grounds will double as a party recruitment event. Indications suggest Odinga may traverse the country to gauge public sentiment and potentially initiate fresh anti-government demonstrations. The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Summit unveiled this approach after dispelling rumours of internal divisions during a meeting chaired by Odinga.

The leaders underscored unity and jointly delivered a coalition statement. Notably, Eugene Wamalwa and Martha Karua, the two highest-ranking dissenters of the National Dialogue report, joined forces to emphasize their collective stand. The coalition has decided to pursue alternative methods to address the soaring cost of living exacerbated by increased taxes and deductions. Azimio expresses deep concern over rising living costs, irresponsible taxes, currency devaluation, turmoil in education, tribalism in public service, and resurgent corruption.

ODM’s deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya affirmed that they are contemplating multiple alternatives, including the possibility of resuming street demonstrations. He emphasized the coalition’s commitment to taking appropriate action based on court decisions. Meanwhile, the Senate has issued a directive to Kenya Kwanza, urging non-interference with the Judiciary.
