Chinese Man with Coronavirus-Like Signs Quarantined in Kenya After Returning from China

A Chinese national who recently arrived in the country from China has been quarantined after he exhibited symptoms linked to the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

The man is isolated in a camp belonging to a Chinese construction company in Mutomo, Kitui County, according to reports. He is an employee of the Synohydro Corporation, a company contracted to construct the Kitui-Kibwezi road.

Confirming the incident, Kitui County Chief Officer for Health Richard Muthoka said they received information that a Chinese worker had been isolated at the facility and was being served food through a window.

Muthoka said the man was among 18 Chinese nationals who recently returned into the country after a vacation in China. The company’s manager is reported to have kept him in isolation after he became ill.

“We have received information that he is held in isolation in a house on the company site and cooks have been advised to serve him food through a window,” Muthoka told The Star.

“My officers were not allowed into the company site but I have advised them to get security from the Mutomo sub-county police headquarters so that they could reach the sick Chinese to get a specimen for testing.”

Muthoka said the man will remain in isolation for 14 days, the gestation period for the virus before the symptoms such as difficulty in breathing manifest.

The coronavirus scourge has left over 1,700 people, most of them in China, dead and more than 70,000 other people infected.

How can it be that a Chinese who is possibly infected is allowed to fly to Kenya from China to come infect Kenyans? Why? Do Chinese really care about the welfare of Kenyans? Of course NOT. Is he going to bribe his way in?

For Kenyans, even selling avocados in China is a real hussle. They(Chinese) make it very difficult.

I do not understand why the Kenyan government can not demand more from the Chinese gova. Even America arm twists countries when it comes to trade. ” You do this or else…”

Now Chinese with what looks like Corona virus are making their way to Kenya yet the Kenyan students in the affected area can not come home. Tomorrow they will say the said Chinese was negative instead of quarantining him somewhere for two weeks to rule this thing out.

  2. This guy is under quarantine…
This guy is under quarantine by his employer and not the health authorities. Why are the Chinese are allowed into the country and not the Kenyan student’s in Wuhan. Ni air fare wamekosa ama ni hidden biases that we black people have against our own kind?

  3. We do not need to be…
We do not need to be eliminated by these people with dead fish eyes. They have already humiliated us by whipping us into submission under the guise of offering us jobs.Does the government not understand we do not have the capability to deal with the virus were it to strike.Anyone who comes from China even if they take connecting flights must be screened and put on mandatory quarantine for 14 days.Simply suspending flights from Wuhan clearly was a drop in the ocean otherwise how did this pest get here. The Chinese employer takes it upon himself to isolate him yet he walked scott free from JKIA.

  4. This situation is beyond a…
This situation is beyond a joke. Nobody cares about chain of infection since he board the flight from corona land? The same flight should be used to return the Chinese staff and quarantine anybody who came in contact, fumigate everything. Unbelievable!

  5. Over to you Madam Serem, why…
Over to you Madam Serem, why are Chinkos coming from China being allowed to the country while our own, Kenyans in China, are held back? Bring our kids back…if not, don’t allow anyone into Kenya if they have been to China last 2 months. Whoever said we treat our own like trash while we dash to the beckon of foreigners like dogs is damn right.
