Eight Kenyan police officers lost their lives in a suspected Al Shabaab attack in Wajir County on Sunday.
Among those killed are five Administration Police officers and three Police Reservists, North Eastern Regional Coordinator Muhammad Saleh said.
The police boss said the vehicle the officers were traveling in run over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Bojigaras area, causing a massive explosion that killed the eight on the spot.
Saleh said more security personnel have been deployed in the area following the attack. This is the third attack carried out by the Somalia-based terror organization in the County since the start of this year.
In January the militants destroyed a Safaricom communication mast in the area, paralyzing communication.
This was followed by another ambush on February 16th where two teachers and one of their spouses were killed during an attack at Qarsa Primary School. A third teacher sustained bullet injuries.
