12 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominated Members of Migori County Assembly (MCAs) have lost their seats after a magistrate court cancelled their nomination.
In its ruling, the court revoked the gazette notice that listed their nomination, with Rongo magistrate, Raymond Langat directing the Raila Odinga-led party to observe gender rule while nominating new MCAs.
The court ruled that their nominations were conducted in a defective manner. The nullification follows a petition filed by some voters who expressed dissatisfaction with the ODM list of nominated MCAs.
The judge found that political party’s tribunal had raised concerns over the list of nominees but ODM ignored and forwarded the contentious list of the nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for gazettement.
However, the court declined to revoke the nomination of Ms Philister Atieno, who was selected to represent special interest group. Migori County Assembly will now be required to strike out the names the nominated MCAs from its payroll and stop them from attending sittings.
The 12 who lost their seats include;Milicent Akinyi, Florence Adongo, Lilian Anyango, Roseline Adhiambo, Hellen Halima Omar, Hellen Moraa, Chris Atieno, Asenta Adhiambo, Hellen Atieno, Agnes Mogesi, Maurine Dande and Florence Oile.
So why are MCAs nominated…
So why are MCAs nominated again? This nomination business is a waste of tax payers money and to have 12 of them is a financial travesty. Perhaps we can give the disabled a leeway but others, pure madness. Kenya does not have that kind of money. We will soon be up to our eyeballs in debt.
