Safaricom has poached Cynthia Karuri-Kropac from American telco AT&T Inc. to be its new Chief Enterprise Business Officer effective from September 1st.
Karuri, who held various management and leadership roles during her 19-year stint at AT&T Inc., replaces Joseph Wanjohi who has been acting since May following the exit of Kris Senanu.
“With over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, Cynthia has a wealth of knowledge in various crafts, including business strategy, industrial IoT, enterprise technology solutions, executive advisory and decision support, operational excellence and process reengineering,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said in a statement.
Prior to her appointment, Karuri served as the Senior Director, Enterprise Mobile and IoT Technologies at AT&T, a position she held since 2019.
Before joining AT&T, Karuri worked for Accenture/Andersen Consulting as a Senior Manager for seven years.
She holds a Bachelor in Finance from The University Of Toledo and a Master’s in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and Financial Management Service from Kent State University.
This is good news. Congrats…
This is good news. Congrats to her. We already have the money drain going on from diaspora to our beautiful Kenya. Let’s also have the brain drain going. That’s where the Western countries beat us. Let’s outsmart them.
Bad move. AT&T, from the…
Bad move. AT&T, from the yesteryears when it used to own a string of landline before it ventured into mobile wireless, was and is known for one thing: corporate greed. From sending questionable bills to selling their products exorbitantly, AT&T is one company that has never woken up from previous years of monopoly. Unlike other carriers like Verizon and Tmobile and other mobile carriers whose services dwells on economic status of lower and middle class status, AT&T is a mean machine whose goals is to enhance its profitability. I will be curious to how know Ms Karuri will improve the business landscape of a third world country where poverty levels in Kenya is delibitating.
Congrats lady.
Lakini, how…
Congrats lady.
Lakini, how many pure “Kenyans” cam hold a senior position in Kenya? The preference for foreigners and some mixed or jungu hyphenated choices is no hidden fact. Ama ni masomo yetu….foreign educated always better??? Can we be Kenya first…..buy Kenya….or it’s a mirage….
Also these ladies and their nice rear ends won’t suddenly become Mūmbi’s children. Just saying.
There is no poaching here,…
There is no poaching here, employees move every now and then. Just because Cynthia worked for AT&T does not mean that the company owned her. It’s purely a willing employer/employee market, no poaching.
Mjuaji, for once let’s…
Mjuaji, for once let’s celebrate when one of us has a chance to contribute to Kenya. Verizon and TMobile are just smarter thieves. Leave the lady alone. Most of us will end up in our homeland one day. One way or the other.
