NARC Kenya Leader Martha Karua Defends Singer Akothee over 'Filthy Stunts'

NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua has come to the defense of Kenyan singer Esther Akoth alias Akothee following attacks by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua and a section of Kenyans online.

Mutua and some online users took issue with Akothee’s ‘indecent’ stunts during a performance at the coast last week.

Karua says Akothee and other musicians are at liberty to give the best to their fans.

The politician further argues that the performances are done in joints that are restricted for adults and no one is forced to watch them.

“Nobody is forced to watch, these are adult shows by an entertainer. Direct your anger at the club owner, not the entertainer,” Karua says in apparent reference to Mutua.

She adds: “On schoolgirl pregnancies, it is men who cannot keep their zips up. You should not be looking for the lady entertainer. Children are not permitted in such joints.”

Karua says it’s wrong to target female artistes even when there are men who operate as strippers.

“It’s called choice and some men too entertain in a similar fashion including as strippers,” she notes.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has also defended Akothee and has asked Mutua to apologize for insulting the singer.

“You owe Akothee an apology because you insulted her and called her demonic,” says Passaris.

“It is not her duty to teach our children, it’s our duty as parents to teach our children. She is a single mother, she inspires a lot of people. She didn’t do it in a school compound, she didn’t do it for underage children.”

I wonder what Akothee will say when she turns 60yrs & sees her daughter performing on stage! “c’mon babe!panua zaidi like I used to,waoneshe”!

    Qouted from Wazua.co.ke,

“No, Mr. Mutua. We are not a brainless audience. And who is the ‘incorrigible pervert” here? What were you thinking — nay, what were you looking at as you watched Akothee’s performance?

A man pushing 60 who posts selfies and photos of his diplomatic passport on Facebook should be the last person in this country to condemn Akothee for her alleged lack of manners. Mutua has no right — in heaven and on earth — to tell women, and especially Akothee, what to do with our bodies, leave alone how to dance.

I say “suspect moral standards” confidently because if Mutua has chosen to go down this road of criticising creatives — and particularly those in the music industry — then I am curious to know why he remained quiet when it emerged that two gospel artists had raped a woman and one of them infected the victim with a sexually transmitted disease.

Does his religion only allow him to chastise secular musicians while looking the other way when gospel artistes turn out to be sexual miscreants?

Male musicians are allowed to sag their pants, grab their crotches and even go topless in music videos and on stage. Sauti Sol, for example, have appeared topless in their music videos, dancing suggestively with video vixens. Akothee didn’t even have to dance with a male fan before Mutua was all over her case.

The other day, comedian Eric Omondi filmed himself naked, jumping into a puddle with children, yet we did not hear Mutua call him out for not being a “role model”. Not once has Akothee gone nude; her greatest crime so far is dancing.
What is it about women’s bodies that bothers Mutua and his ilk?”

  3. Mr Mutua you are right…
