Former NTV Anchor Caught in Sh5.8 Million Scandal Pleads for Help
Salim Swaleh

Salim Swaleh, the former Director of the Press Service at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS) and ex-NTV news anchor, has made an impassioned plea for assistance.

Swaleh’s life has been in confusion since June when a scandal involving him came to light, making it challenging for him to even venture outside his home. The video reveals Swaleh’s dire circumstances, including increased extortion from lawyers and police officers, while his case progresses slowly through the legal system. Addressing Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Swaleh expresses remorse and seeks help, referring to Mudavadi as a father figure and acknowledging the breach of trust between them.

“Your excellency, you know you have been my father figure for the longest time that I have known you. We have built an unmatched trust between us and for the last one and half years, I served you with unmatched zeal. I broke the trust, I did and I am so sorry about it. I am truly remorseful about it and the last one month has been so difficult for me.” he stated.

Swaleh’s arrest in June, along with other high-ranking ministry officials, was related to allegations of involvement in a Sh5.8 million scandal. The officials were accused of renting their offices to unscrupulous business people for illicit dealings, reportedly becoming adept at deceptive practices such as switching nametags on doors to mislead victims. The fallout from the scandal has been severe for Swaleh with his salary suspended thus impacting his ability to repay loans and meet financial obligations.

He appeals for an expedited court process to allow him to move forward with his life. Swaleh describes the constant pressure he faces from various parties, including lawyers and police, who believe he possesses substantial wealth. Attempts by the press to reach Swaleh for additional information about the case and the intended recipient of the video were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages. The emotional toll of the scandal on Swaleh has been profound with the ex-NTV news anchor admitting to struggling with suicidal thoughts due to his financial difficulties.
