Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga has warned that he stands ready to resume the protests should Ruto fail to ensure talks commence in 48 hours.

Raila has proclaimed that should the bipartisan talks fail to start tomorrow, he will void the truce to return to the people. The warning comes after both coalitions agreed to dialogue on the August 2022 post-election stalemate. Raila has continued to blame Kenya Kwanza for lack of seriousness, saying that lack of goodwill on the side of the ruling alliance derailed last week’s reprieve.

“Now we are seeing signs of reluctance, saying they don’t have a quorum to begin discussions and so on. We have given them today and tomorrow and talks must start in earnest by Wednesday. If their delegation is not ready by Wednesday, we will treat that gentleman’s agreement as cancelled and we will explore other options available to us as Azimio,” said Mr Odinga.

The opposition leader was speaking at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices alongside Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah.

Mr Odinga said that the ruling Alliance removed Keynan from the bipartisan commission because visitors were coming into the country. He added that they stood down the demonstration in good faith since the ruling pact approached them for talks. Raila hinted that they are ready to explore other options at hand.

“We acted in good faith last Thursday to call off the demonstrations because Kenya Kwanza had approached us and said they were ready for talks. We knew that the real reason was because visitors were coming to town and they did not want demonstrations that time. But we did act in good faith ourselves because they said they were serious.” Said Mr Odinga.
