President Ruto has vowed to use all the powers at his disposal to thwart the planned anti-government protests by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
Speaking in Malava, Kakamega County on Saturday, Ruto assured Kenyans that the government will protect their property and ensure that the demonstrations do not deteriorate into violence.
“I am the commander in chief, nyinyi mtajua hamjui…hakuna mali ya wananchi itaharibika tena, hakuna biashara ya mkenya itaharibika tena,” Ruto noted.
“I will not allow demonstrations to happen and I want to tell them for the avoidance of doubt, there will be no demonstration to destroy people’s property, to cause chaos, to stop people from going to work that will not happen.”
Ruto accused opposition leaders of using demonstrations to force their way into the government, insisting that their grievances will only be addressed through legally available channel, which is Parliament.
“The government will not allow the citizen’s property to be destroyed again. We will not allow any Kenyan business to be destroyed the government will stand firm to defend every Kenyan’s business and property,” he said.
He added that the planned protests are an attempt by selfish leaders to cripple the country’s economy and impoverish Kenyans so that they can benefit.
“These people were claiming that the cost of unga is high, they were demonstrating claiming unga prices are high, now that it has drop they are still insisting on going to the streets to demonstrate meaning they were not after the cost of living they have been claiming it is high,” he said.
“I found the price of unga at Sh230 and since we took over the unga has dropped to below Sh160 and I have only used my intelligence.”
Raila Odinga-led Azimio coalition announced mass protests will resume on Tuesday next week, accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of a lack of commitment to bipartisan talks.
