25-Year-Old Kenyan Woman Gives Birth to Five Babies

A 25-year-old woman from Nakuru county has given birth to five babies, a boy and four girls.

Margret Wairimu, a second-time mother, delivered the quintuplets at Nakuru Level V Hospital on Tuesday evening.

She was rushed to the facility’s theatre on Tuesday after doctors discovered that she was expecting five babies.

Nakuru Level V Hospital medical superintendent Dr. Aisha Maina said the mother and babies are accommodated at the newborn unit, where they are being monitored.

“She came in through the hospital’s outpatient with discomfort and on checking her, the medics realized that she had multiple pregnancies,” Maina said.

She said the expectant mother was admitted for observation as she had a high-risk pregnancy. Her pain exceeded, forcing medics to do an emergency Caesarian Section to save the mother and babies.

“The babies were delivered at seven months and have to be incubated for survival,” she said.

Maina said the four girls and one boy weighed between 500 grams and 650 grams and the mother is in stable condition. She will be discharged once the infants attain the right body weight.

The father Simon Ndungu Kinyanjui, who works as a driver for 2NK Sacco, is appealing to well-wishers to help him with resources to raise the children.

“The quintuplets are a pleasant surprise but it will be difficult for me to raise them,” he said.

The young couple has another child aged four, bringing the total number of children to six.

It is unfortunate that all the babies have died.
@ Henry m. I am shocked that some here are surprised that prenatal care is not affordable to all.Kenya is a third world country, and one of the draw backs is affordability, and accessability to some of the resources that are taken almost for granted in places like USA.
