President Ruto Defends Proposal on Creation of Official Opposition Office

President Ruto has defended his proposal on the creation of an office of the official leader of the opposition.

In a memorandum to Parliament on Friday, Ruto urged MPs to consider amending Chapter 9 of the Constitution to establish the office of official leader of the opposition, whose functions will be provided for in subsequent laws enacted by the House.

He argued that such an office would institutionalize governance, strengthen oversight and deepen democracy in the country.

Speaking during an interdenominational church service in Nyandarua County on Sunday, Ruto said an empowered opposition will keep the government accountable and ensure public resources are utilized properly.

“I am a great believer in an accountable government. That is why we want our oversight institutions, Parliament and the Opposition to be empowered so that they can ensure that public resources are used properly and appropriately so that we can run an accountable administration because an accountable administration is the one that will bring transformation to the Republic of Kenya,” he said.

“We have no problem with our opposition, we are not afraid of being rectified and reminded on where we are going wrong. They do their job and we do ours as long as we all do our mandate in a patriotic and peaceful manner for the benefit of Kenyans.”

The economy is the biggest opposition for every government in the world.

Not Raila Odinga or anybody else.

  2. Mr. President, that’s not…
Mr. President, that’s not what we the People elected you to do as a priority, a BBI 2..0! Certainly, we the Mt. Kenya people made you president and rejected BBI shenanigans, OVERWHELMINGLY! We shall turn against you like flipping a switch in a flash! It appears that you are either naive or drunk with power already!

Our Constitution does not require mutilation in order to accommodate a few corrupt selfish politicians!

Moreover, such drastic changes to the Peoples Constitution, we demand, must be put through a referendum!

Why don’t you tackle corruption, debt, economic development, unemployment and a myriad of other problems ravaging our country???

Don’t act like a Brutal KANU DICTATOR already! We shall overwhelmingly reject you and your misguided agenda!!!
