The Ugandan government has opened an investigation into Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’s Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Team University.
This is after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wrote to Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, requesting a probe into the authenticity of Sakaja’s degree awarded by the Kampala-based university.
Ugandan publication New Vision reported that the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) said investigations were at an advanced stage and will reveal its findings upon completing the probe.
“Let us finalize our investigations and everyone will know. We cannot share anything now until the investigations are complete,” said NHCE Executive Director Prof Mary Okweakol.
A former Bachelor of Science in Management student at Team University was quoted by the newspaper saying that Sakaja did not graduate with the class of 2016, adding that only six students graduated with the course and the Kenyan senator was not among them.
“We didn’t have online studies at the time and when we graduated in October 21st, 2016, we were only six students. I know them because we are classmates,” the student was quoted as saying.
The Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked the recognition of Sakaja’s degree on June 15th pending investigations into its authenticity. CUE later withdrew a letter revoking the degree after Sakaja obtained a court order.
Sakaja, who is eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on a UDA party ticket, used the Team University degree to be cleared to vie in the forthcoming elections.

Uganda reserves the right to investigate the kind of relationship that exist between Teams university and Sakaja. So keep the deep state out of this mess if at all deep state exists.
