Former IEBC Chair Issack Hassan Shortlisted for Court of Appeal Judge Post

Former Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Issack Hassan has been shortlisted for an Appeals Court judge job.

Hassan was among 68 individuals who applied for six positions of the Court of Appeal judge advertised by the Judicial Service Commission on March 14th.

JSC shortlisted 31 applicants, who are set to be interviewed between June 20th and August 24th this year.

Hassan headed the electoral commission from 2011 to 2016 when he and other commissioners were removed from office following public protests by Raila Odinga-led Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

Hassan, 52, is a lawyer by profession, and specialized in commercial and constitutional law

JSC is seeking to recruit six more judges of the Court of Appeal and 20 judges of the High Court as part of its efforts to address the of backlog of cases.

Former IEBC vice-chair Lilian Mahiri-Zaja is among 104 candidates shortlisted for the High Court judge position from a list of 266 applicants.
