God is in Control: DP Gachagua Says Ahead of Senate Impeachment Trial
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has today addressed Kenyans with an appeal for peace during a service at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK).

His message, delivered on the occasion of the diocese’s 34th anniversary, emphasizes national unity and perseverance in the face of political upheaval. Following his speech, he led the attendees in a hymn joined by a choir, local leaders, and his wife Dorcas Rigathi. The impeachment process against Gachagua has been a highly publicized and contentious affair. The charges brought against him are numerous and serious, including gross violation of the Constitution, promotion of ethnic discrimination, and undermining national unity through divisive public statements. Additionally, he stands accused of contradicting government policies and failing to uphold his duties as Deputy President, thereby violating the principle of collective Cabinet responsibility.

The National Assembly’s vote to impeach Gachagua was supported by a record 282 MPs, setting the stage for his upcoming appearance before the Senate. His legal team led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite has been vigorously challenging the impeachment, arguing that the charges are based on unsupported allegations, hearsay, and falsehoods. Gachagua himself has maintained that the process was flawed from the beginning, citing alleged bias from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his deputy Gladys Shollei. The Senate trial is scheduled to commence next week, with the possibility of extending depending on the evidence and witnesses presented.

Gachagua reassured the congregation that despite the political turmoil, God is in control. He reminded them that as Christians, they believe in God, and while humans plan, God is in charge. Gachagua emphasized the importance of respecting the will of the people, highlighting the support he and President Ruto received during the elections. He expressed confidence in the judiciary, stating that the judges will uphold the constitution and the rule of law, ensuring that the will of the people prevails.

Speaker Amason Kingi has directed that the impeachment case be heard before the Senate plenary. Gachagua will be removed from his position if at least two-thirds of the Senate vote to uphold the ouster. Further charges against Gachagua include intimidating the acting CEO of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) and insubordination to the President. Supporters of Gachagua argue that the charges are politically motivated and part of a larger scheme to undermine his influence within the government. Critics, however, contend that impeachment is a necessary step to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability for public officials.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto has reached out to Kenyans for prayers and support as his administration embarks on implementing a series of transformative programs across the country. Speaking during a church service, Ruto acknowledges the numerous challenges facing his government’s initiatives but remains resolute in his commitment to seeing them through.

“Implementing these transformational changes requires not only dedication but also the prayers and support of our people.”

The President’s remarks come amid controversy surrounding new policies in health, education funding, and affordable housing. Notably, the government has recently transitioned from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the newly established Social Health Authority, a move Ruto believes will significantly impact the nation. Ruto also commends faith-based institutions for their continued support of various government initiatives.

” Promotion of ethnic discrimination, and undermining national unity through divisive public statements”
And what do you call the following from the President Ruto.
    KTN: January 20th, 2016:
sababu Ile serikali itakusaidia kufatua matatizo uliyo nayo….
    Namna gani.”
    So who promoting ethnic discrimination?
Who is undermining national unity through divisive public statements?
