Comedian and radio presenter Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, has secured the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket to run for Lang’ata parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.
Jalang’o won the ODM party nominations held on Friday after garnering 3,509 votes ahead of his closest rival Oscar Omoke who got 1,612 votes.
Musaari Kahiga Syongoh came third with 397 votes followed by Wangusi Nathan Barasa (146), Sally Bolo (138), and Taa Vivienne (121).
The comedian-turned-politician will now face off with the incumbent Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir, who is defending his seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
“The real work begins. I have been profiled as a comedian who knows nothing about politics. But I knew I had to sell my agenda to the electorate. That is what I focused on,” Jalang’o told Citizen TV after winning the coveted ticket.
Jalang’o says he will address the perennial issues affecting locals in Lang’ata if he is elected the area MP on August 9th.
“Lack of water in areas such as Mugomo-Ini and other parts of the constituency will be addressed. Lang’ata is the home of Nairobi Dam. We had a sailing club in Lang’ata many years ago. We will get water for our people,” he added.
