Popular Nairobi-based blogger-cum-politician Robert Alai has bagged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket to vie for an MCA seat in the city.
Alai will fly the ODM flag in the Kileleshwa Ward Representative race after winning the party nominations held on Friday.
He trounced eight other Kileleshwa MCA aspirants who were eyeing the ODM ticket, garnering 638 votes against his closest challenger Junior Tollo who got 545 votes.
Perpetua Mponjiwa Okello came third with 364 votes ahead of Victoria Angani (130), Eric Maikuma (52), Godfrey Omwono (21), Franklin Aluoch (10), Patrick Muhanji (5), and Derrick Mugendi (1).
Alai, who holds a degree in computer science, had previously declared interest in the Nyando parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.
He dropped his bid for the Nyando MP seat and joined the race for Kileleshwa MCA, citing an opinion poll that showed that he was not the most popular candidate.
“I have lived in Kileleshwa for the last four years and with that, I understand the needs of the poor as well as the middle class and the rich. We need to give everyone a unique space and not discriminate,” Alai said after declaring his bid for Kileleshwa ward rep.
In Kibra Constituency, incumbent MP Imran Okoth failed to secure the ODM ticket after losing out in the primaries.
Mwalimu Peter Ochieng Orero clinched the ticket after getting 3,422 votes against Imran’s 2,739.
Imran won the Kibra MP seat in November 2019 in a by-election occasioned by the death of his brother and then MP Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.
