Four People Killed, Chinese National Missing After Al-Shabaab Attack in Lamu

Four people were killed following an attack by Al-Shabaab militants on a construction site in Lamu County on Friday.

Reports indicate that one Chinese national also went missing following the attack that occurred in the Bodhei Majengo area.

The victims include workers constructing the highway from the Lamu Port to Ethiopia and South Sudan, according to police.

The assailants also set one construction vehicle and a motorbike on fire during the attack. They also destroyed a bridge that was under construction at the Majengo-Omolo area.

Al-Shabaab has since claimed responsibility for the attack, saying six people, including a Chinese national, were killed.

Lamu County lies close to the Somali border and has suffered frequent Al-Shabaab attacks, often conducted with roadside bombs.

Al-Shabaab fighters have been staging frequent attacks in the country in retaliation for Kenya sending troops into Somalia as part of an African Union force to degrade the jihadists.

The al-Qaeda-linked group is seeking to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu and controls swathes of southern Somalia from where it regularly launches attacks in Somalia, Kenya and elsewhere.

Can the African Union volunteer their soldiers to ensure north eastern is developed.Kenyan soldiers wamechoka they are doing their best and could use support. Surely Kenya is part of Africa and these pesky Somalis insist on making this area ungovernable and uninhabitable .We tried with a university they attacked now they are attacking road workers just like the lions attacked the railway workers building the railway.Maybe there must be more efforts to secure this area or let them secede to govern themselves.

@Guest1, Al Shabaab is a terrorist organization. They are fighting enemies of Allah. Apparently the Somali government is also an enemy of Allah. They are attacking Kenya for sending its forces along with the african union forces, into somalia.
If the solution is that simple, then, let’s withdraw our forces. However I doubt if that would solve anything. We can pull out all the Amison forces and let Somalia handle its “internal problems”,but that would still not solve the problem.See being an enemy of Allah, you can be accused of anything they dont like.Solution is to increase fire power, and wear them off… war of attrition.
