Captain Ronald Karauri, the CEO of betting company Sportpesa, has announced his entry into politics.
Karauri on Wednesday declared he will vie for the Karasani parliamentary seat in the August 9th elections. The businessman, who did not disclose his party of choice, exuded confidence that he will be elected as the next MP for Kasarani in the forthcoming elections.
“In the course of the work that we have been doing in the community, both in sports and maternal health, many people have approached me to represent them so that we can make change together.”
“Today, I declare that I will be in the race as their next MP in Kasarani. I can say, here and today, that together we will change the face of Kasarani Constituency,” he is quoted by Nation.
Karauri, a former Kenya Airways pilot, is seeking to unseat the current MP Mercy Gakuya, who was elected in the 2017 elections on a Jubilee Party ticket.
“It is not that Kasarani has no leaders, leaders are there. It is just that there are different levels. But when you get to a certain stage, there has to change. The people of Kasarani have asked me to be their MP and I have accepted the challenge,” Karauri, 44, added.
Popular rapper Jackson Makini Ngechu, alias Prezzo, has also expressed interest in the position.
