A 29-year-old terror suspect has been arrested in Nairobi as police continue to beef up security in the wake of the recent terror attack warnings by Western nations.
Mohamed Abubakar Hussein, who is linked to terror activities, was arrested on Tuesday morning by a multi-agency security team led by the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) officers.
The suspect was found in possession of 95 used Nokia (kabambe) phones and is currently in lawful custody assisting with further investigation.
“While we have enhanced our security presence across the country, we urge the public to share information on any suspicious activities within their areas,” the National Police Service said in a statement.
Last week, the US, France, Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands warned of potential terror attacks in the Kenyan capital and other parts of the country.
The US embassy in a notice on Friday urged American nationals to take extreme precautions in public locations such as shopping malls, hotels, airports, clubs, restaurants, transportation hubs, schools, places of worship, and other areas frequented by tourists.
“Public events, such as demonstrations and celebratory gatherings, are also at a higher risk for violence,” the embassy said.
