National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga claims that ballot papers for Thursday’s repeat presidential election were printed in Kenya and not in Dubai as Kenyans have been made to believe.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia on Sunday, the opposition chief said that the ballots were printed along Mombasa Rd and have already been pre-marked in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The ballot papers have already been printed secretly in Nairobi and we have evidence that the election which is going to be held on Thursday is a sham,” he stated.
He insisted that there will be no elections on Thursday, saying that Nasa cannot be part of an election whose outcome has already been predetermined.
We cannot go to the poll again when things have not been properly rectified. Already the rigging plot is in place. We know that votes have already been printed and have been distributed. We are not fools.”
“We want to let Jubilee know that we are prepared to participate in a free and fair election but we are not prepared for an election which has already been rigged,” he added.
He further announced that their anti-election demonstrations will resume on Tuesday and maintained that no poll will be held on Thursday. “There will be countrywide demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on Thursday no elections,” he proclaimed.
In an interview with the Nation on Saturday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party said he will not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency if he is declared after Thursday’s repeat election and ruled out challenging the win in the Supreme Court.
“Filing a petition will be a waste of time. As far as we are concerned, this is not an election. Therefore, it is not a legal matter but a political one which must be dealt with as such,”.
“You heard Chebukati say that he cannot deliver a credible poll. In fact, he said he can’t guarantee a fair one. Under such circumstances, even without addressing the issues we raised before, who would in their right frame of mind, agree to participate in such an exercise?” Odinga posed.
