Kenyan Teenager Gives Birth to Conjoined Twins at Lenmek Hospital

A 19-year-old woman has given birth to conjoined twins at a private hospital in Kisii County.

Lilian Moraa from Kiong’ongi area in Bobasi sub-county delivered the babies at Lenmek Hospital in Kisii County on Monday night.

The teenager started experiencing normal birth pains on Monday evening before being taken to Ogembo Level IV Hospital where she was admitted.

Moraa was later in the night referred to Lenmek Hospital due to complications and doctors at the facility helped her to deliver the twins.

Doctors at the hospital suspect the female twins could be sharing vital organs such as the intestines.

Lead doctor Evans Monda said the babies are joined from the chest down to the abdomen area and an initial assessment showed that many of their organs are sound.

He added that they will have to refer the twins to an advanced hospital for further examination and separation.
