Fully vaccinated Kenyans will from October 11th be allowed to enter the UK without having to quarantine or take a COVID-19 test before departure.
The announcement was made by British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott through her official Twitter page on Thursday.
“Delighted people vaccinated in Kenya will be able to travel to the United Kingdom without quarantine, or taking a COVID test before departure,” she said.
She added: “Great news for our peoples, business and tourism after tough 18 months. Huge thanks to @MOH_Kenya and CS Kagwe after our joint commitment two weeks ago.”
The British High Commission in Kenya said the UK will recognize vaccine certificates issued in Kenya.
The move comes two weeks after Kenya was removed from the list of UK COVID-19 red list countries, paving way for travelers from the country to visit the UK.
Kenya was moved to the amber list alongside Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Bangladesh on September 22nd.
Passengers who are not recognized as being fully vaccinated with authorized vaccines and certificates under the UK international travel rules will still have to take a pre-departure test, a day 2 and day 8 PCR test, and self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival.
Those who test positive will need to isolate and take a confirmatory PCR test at no additional cost to the traveler.
