Raila Holds Talks with UK’s Armed Forces Minister James Heappey in London

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday morning held talks with the UK Minister for Armed Forces James Heappey in London.

The discussions between the two centered around defense and security military, with a view of enhancing military corporation between Kenya and the UK going forward.

Odinga described the UK as one of Kenya’s most loyal and dependable defense and security partners.

“We had a robust discussion on matters appertaining to security with a view of enhancing our ties moving into the future with their Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey,” Odinga said on Facebook.

Kenya and the UK share a rich history in defense and security matters. British troops train at the Nanyuki army base under an agreement between Kenya and the UK, where the latter can send six infantry battalions annually for eight-week exercises. As part of the agreement, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers train with their British counterparts.

Odinga was accompanied to the meeting by Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

The meeting came on the second day of Odinga’s week-long visit to the UK, where he is expected to meet government officials, businesspeople, and Kenyans living there.

Odinga, who is seeking the presidency under the Azimio La Umoja coalition, is today scheduled to give addresses at the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).

  1. Raila busy meeting people of…
Raila busy meeting people of substance.

Just last week we saw The Con of UDA lying he was in the White House and talking ill about his country. Is that the kind of president we need? One who has NEVER suffered for the sake of the country?

In the meantime the story is becoming more clearer in Mt. Kenya. Those rigged in during the last elections are going back to their Godfather,Arap Mashamba. That includes Wamatangi. Let truth be told, they will not win this time. Once the Agīkūyū face Mt. Kenya, their intent will be clear and rigging will NOT be done. A few will need to be thrown into the political dustbin. Let the chips fall where they may. We need leaders not freeloaders.

    • Ruto collected every thief…
Ruto collected every thief in the political dustbin – Waititu the most corrupt governor next to Sonko, the drug peddler Kabogo, the mad man Moses Kuria, the illiterate Faith Gitau, etc to show the UDAku conmen Ruto intends to surround himself with should he be elected president! Kenya can’t afford to be led by corruption machinery of thieves.

      • If all these people you’re…
If all these people you’re mentioning move today to the Azimia party, they would clean just like all that are in there. They wouldn’t have any other names other than the Right honorables.

    • Mugikuyu, stop sticking your…
Mugikuyu, stop sticking your head in the sand. When you see Mt Kenya leaders defecting, they feel what’s on the ground. Otherwise why would one defect to loose? Common sense right?
I agree with you that we need leaders not freeloaders. We already have one freeloader called Raila Osunga who have been hanging on the wings of state house after handshake.
As much as Raila is meeting people of substance, I don’t think it was a warranted meeting. Just because it was easy for Matiangi to make such arrangements, it’s inconsequential for your Baba. At least at this time. Kenyans are reeling for immediate solutions to lowering food stuff prices, jobs and medicine. Not army. This shows us leader with misplaced priorities. Such kind of people would want us to go to the moon when our children are dying of starvation.

  2. The people of Kenya need…
The people of Kenya need food on their tables. They need medical attention. The millions of youth need jobs or sort of business. Not anything military. But unless one is planning to create war. The military men and women Kenya has is enough to quell any mayhem in the Somali border and arrest cattle rustling menace in the north west.

    • @Transista – You may show no…
@Transista – You may show no value to the military needs but at least you can give credit to the men and women who have been fighting in Somalia to keep kenya safe.

Those youth needing jobs can also enlist to go fight for their country in Somalia. Why be selective when Ruto loudly keep yelling “kazi ni kazi”?

And by the way, Ruto will not be president of kenya if the bitterness we saw in Ruto in Thika is anything to go by.

Ruto had nothing to offer Kenyans the day he was coronated to be the UDAku presidential bearer. He just showed how empty headed he is by making very divisive speeches. Kenya can’t have a mad man for a president.

      • Jared, I didn’t begrudge our…
Jared, I didn’t begrudge our Kenya military. I said the army we have in Kenya is enough at the moment to deal with local and border issues. I meant that it’s a misplaced priority for Raila to be meeting a Minister for the army in the UK. Kenyans are starving. You don’t just meet anyone just because they are available unless you are going about your personal bids.
Please note that the bitterness you saw in Thika is not anything to go by. We are all entitled to be angry at times. Even Presidents cry. So Ruto will be President of Kenya come August 9 2022.

  3. Governor Ali Hassan Joho,…
Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth. Raila is telling us which people will play prominent roles in his government.

  4. No presence of British force…
No presence of British force (US-too) on Kenyan land less land 60 yrs since killing thousands of our people in the name of queens order should never be forgiven nor forgotten. No british soldier should be allowed to train on Kenyan soil. How easy do we forget they had concentration camps just a few yrs ago (1950s/60) they raped tortured beat and killed our innocent men and women whos sin was not fight back for their land and need for self rule.
The presence of foreign forces in Africa is cause of instability, insecurity and colonialism2.0
No European country has allowed another force that killed her people back into their land in the name of security.
The greatest military threat in the world is westerners who envy and exploit African resources and the only way they know how is through killing ang stealing.
Time for british soldiers to get out of Nanyuki (US-out of Manda_bay), and time to honor the fallen men and women who sacrificed all to ensure the whiteman and his evil plans fail.
What justification does the US have in maintaining more than 800 military babse around the world other than being a brutal empire and the UK is an extension of the same.
African/Kenay can secure her boarders without the “help” from the west afterall the only external threats to peace comes from the very same countries who cause instabilities in order to maintain their defense/military industry complex by selling more and more weapons.
