Mololine Sacco Founder Kibira Muchai Passes Away

Renowned Kenyan businessman Kibira Muchai has passed away.

Muchai died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Nakuru Level Five Hospital where he had been admitted.

He was the founder of Mololine, a pioneer matatu Sacco that revolutionized public service transport in Kenya.

Deputy President William Ruto eulogized Muchai as “a shrewd and philanthropic businessman who inspired many by his relentless desire to accomplish great success despite humble beginnings.”

“His Legacy in the transport sector will live on cemented by Molo Line Transport Company that he founded. As a leader he selflessly advocated for the rights and development needs of his people and led pro-change campaigns in the region,” Ruto tweeted.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said the deceased leaves behind a rich legacy as an astute, visionary, and charitable businessman.

Muchai was instrumental in the development of the cashless system of payment at Mololine, one of the oldest and most successful public transport Saccos in the country, having been established in 1994.

Muchai, who owns several businesses and properties in Molo, Nakuru, and Nairobi, was a strong defender of the Matatu operators and farmers in the county. Despite being wealthy, he avoided opulence and lived a humble life.
