The family of the late police officer Caroline Kangogo has dismissed claims that she was murdered.
Kangogo’s father Barnaba Kibor, a retired police officer, insisted that her daughter committed suicide contrary to reports that she may have been killed.
Addressing journalists at his home in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kibor said Kangogo locked herself inside a bathroom and shot herself in the head last Friday.
“To clear the air, I would like to confirm that Kangogo locked herself inside the bathroom and shot herself dead,” he noted.
“I don’t want people to continue saying that my daughter was killed. If someone knows how she was murdered and by who, they should come out and tell us because what I saw is that my daughter took her own life.”
The father noted that Kangogo was dropped near his home the previous night at 10 pm by a boda boda rider, who did not recognize her.
He explained that the bathroom door was locked from inside, adding that someone could not dump her body and still lock the bathroom from inside.
On the alleged suicide messages found in Kangogo’s phone, Kibor said the handset was taken by police and could not ascertain their authenticity.
“Mimi sikuona hiyo ujumbe, niliskia tu kwa sababu sikuona simu yake ya kwamba aliandika message,” stated Kibor, adding that her daughter is still innocent until proven guilty.
The family will not honor her alleged cremation wishes and will instead bury her on July 24th.
Kangogo was wanted over the murder of Police Constable John Ogweno, 28, and 32-year-old businessman Peter Ndwiga Njiru. She allegedly shot and killed Ogweno at Kasarani police quarters in Nakuru on July 5th before traveling to Juja, Kiambu County where she killed Njiru in a hotel room.

I emphasize with you because obviously you’ve lost a daughter tragically, the media have sensationalized the whole thing & you many not have slept nor had time to even grief!
I just have 2 questions; the area OCPD for your area confirmed that your property was under surveillance 24/7 with several heavily armed & elite to security personnel who had been deployed to wait for her! How could it be possible that she was dropped off with a motorbike & no one of them heard it! Did u hear nor saw her being dropped coz obviously the alleged motorbike guy didn’t?
2. If the external bathroom was locked from inside, how did her mother whom allegedly was the first to find her dead accessed the said bathroom? Did she break in??
I am sorry, so far nothing said is adding up! The ballistics and her body position status, feet crossed and relaxed, gun still in hand doesn’t match with that of someone who tragically shot herself! There’s a bigger scandal or major deal gone wrong! Kenya’s investigators will NEVER truthfully dig out the facts.
