Kenya has been named in Forbes’ list of nine countries where global travel is easy in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Forbes on Tuesday said Kenya’s relaxed Covid-19 rules on international travel make it an ideal destination for business or tourism travel amid the pandemic.
Kenya reopened its airspace for international flights on August 1st following a four-month hiatus occasioned by the global outbreak of Covid-19.
To travel to Kenya, one is only required to produce a PCR Covid-19 negative test, which must have been conducted within 96 hours of arrival.
Travelers with a PCR Covid-19 negative test are exempted from mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Kenya from 131 countries cleared by the government.
“Otherwise, Kenya is currently fairly relaxed at the border, and travel around the country is not restricted,” Forbes noted.
Last week, Kenya became the first country in the world to be awarded the recommended status of the “Safer Tourism Seal” by the Rebuilding Travel—a global pro-tourism industry group composed of tourism boards, ministers of tourism, professional associations, industry stakeholders, researchers, academics and travelers.
Tourism CS Najib Balala termed the award as a testimony of Kenya’s commitment to ensuring travelers’ safety in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kenya was also awarded the Safe Travel Stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in July.
After a spike in July and August, Kenya has recorded a reduced daily number of Covid-19 infections for over a week now. As of Thursday, there were 34,705 confirmed cases, 20,644 recoveries, and 585 deaths.
The other eight countries in the Forbes list are Mexico, Turkey, French Polynesia, Maldives, Dubai, Albania, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
Mexico, Turkey, Albania, North Macedonia, and Serbia do not have any requirements for travelers while Maldives, French Polynesia, and Dubai need proof of negative tests.
