Homicide detectives have opened a probe after decomposing bodies of two children were found inside a car at Athi River Police Station.
Athi River police station’s head Catherine Ringera said the boy and girl, both aged four years, had been reported missing on June 11th.
They are said to have disappeared from their KMC Estate while playing outside their house and police’s efforts to trace them in hospitals and morgues were unsuccessful.
Their bodies were discovered on Tuesday afternoon by a man who had gone to the police station to pick up his car that had been impounded after an accident.
The businessman alerted police after detecting a foul smell emanating from the vehicle’s boot. When the trunk was opened, the bodies of the two minors were found stashed inside a black paper bag.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Chiromo Mortuary after their parents identified them as lvina Mutheu and Henry Jacktone.
The officer who moved the car to the police station on May 1st has since recorded a statement regarding the matter.
