Inverted Number Plate on Uhuru’s Car Leaves Kenyans Puzzled

Hawk-eyed Kenyans were quick to notice something unusual with the number plate of President Kenyatta’s car.

Kenyatta’s motorcade arrived at his Harambee House office in Nairobi on Sunday evening ahead of his address to the nation on the coronavirus pandemic.

But what puzzled Kenyans on social media was the registration number of Uhuru’s car, which had been fixed upside down. Instead of reading KCW 980H, the number plate appeared as H086 MƆʞ.

It remains unclear whether the fixing of the number plate was done deliberately or it was an error. However, the rear number plate was properly fixed.

Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans online.

Stinger said: “Definitely this has a meaning, it depicts how the government has failed terribly, govt functions and priorities upside down.”

Victoria Madola noted: “To confuse the virus.”

Gordon Opiyo posed: “Could this happen under Moi? Could this happen under Kibaki? Clearly, this is a sign of a deeper, more serious problem.”

Kirwa Arap Magut said: “Absolutely no problem…it creates confusion, which is a very good security maneuver.”

Waiharo Waweru explained: “Apparently it’s a standard/common thing to signify the head of state is carrying bad news. Turkish President did it when he was almost overthrown.”

Joe Karanja wrote: “Whoever did it knew very well. Am sure it was deliberate.”
Wachira Njogu quipped: “The number is mirror written on purpose. To tell apart decoys by the lead cars.’

Symo Kibe said: “That was for security reasons not that they didn’t know.”
Kemboi Cherop said: “The moment you saw the president number plate erected upside down , that is the moment you should realize the country is moving in the wrong direction.”

Kipchumba K. James noted: “That was a security issue. People discussing what they don’t know. Those in security cycle know the meaning.”
