Uhuru Pays Sh3.5 Million Hospital Bill for 5-Year-Old Kenyan Boy Stuck in India

President Kenyatta has heard the cry of a five-year-old Kenyan boy who was stuck in India for several weeks after his family was unable to pay for life-saving surgery.

Last week, the boy named Ethan Macharia penned an emotional letter to Kenyatta requesting him to help the family raise Sh3.5 million needed for him to undergo a crucial head operation.

Through his mother, the boy explained that he fell on his head down the stairs while playing with friends 16 months ago.

“It was very painful and it injured me badly. I was rushed to the hospital. My life has never been the same for me and seizures have become part of my life,” part of the latter stated.

He said Sh3.5 million was required for him to undergo surgery to rectify his condition. Medics in India said the boy requires a Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) surgery as the seizures cannot be controlled with drugs.

“It will help me get better and I can come back home and go to school and play with my friends. I want to be a footballer when I grow up. Please help me to be better again,” the boy concluded.

On Friday, President Uhuru sent Kenyan Ambassador to India Willy Bett to inform Ethan’s family that he will settle the full hospital bill. The minor will have the operation at the Forties Hospital in India on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020.

“No words can explain my emotions right now and no words can express my gratitude to the President for his kind gesture. The last 16 months have been nothing but emotional turmoil for us and we are glad that with this surgery, Ethan will be able to lead a normal life like he was before and become who he wants to be,’’ said Ethan’s mother, Veronica Njeri.
