Police have set free a Kenyan man who filmed himself having sexual intercourse with a girl who was initially thought to be a minor.
Patrick Ayoyi Ajunga was arrested in his house in Kericho last weekend after the video recording went viral on social media, sparking outrage from online users.
Ayoyi was released after the girl’s mother presented her birth certificate to the police to ascertain her age, according to The Standard. The certificate indicates that she was born in 1997 and was 20 years old when the sex tape was allegedly filmed in 2017.
Ayoyi and the girl in the video are long-distance cousins and thus did not commit incest, according to family members who spoke to The Standard. Police said they are still looking for the woman to record her statement on the leaked video clip.
Detectives are looking to find out who leaked the video that Ayoyi claims was recorded in Nairobi two years ago. He denied he was the one who shared the tape on social media, saying he lost his phone in 2017 and suspects the one who got hold of it leaked the video.
