Retired President Daniel Arap Moi on Sunday celebrated Mashujaa Day at his home in Kabarnet Gardens, Nairobi a week after he was admitted to hospital.
Moi was taken to Nairobi Hospital on Sunday, October 13th for a routine medical checkup and was reportedly discharged during the course of last week.
Moi’s Press Secretary, Lee Njiru said the former President followed Mashujaa Day celebrations live on television.
“Mzee Moi celebrated Mashujaa Day at his Kabarnet Gardens home in Nairobi with close family members and friends,” Njiru said in a statement.
He added: “He saluted heroes and heroines whose hard work, courage, patriotism, and perseverance have had a great impact on the socio-economic wellbeing of the country and urged Kenyans to emulate them and contribute towards the prosperity of the country.”
Njiru said Moi was discharged from hospital after his personal physician Dr. David Silverstein gave him a clean bill of health.
Last December, Moi was taken to the same facility for what doctors also termed as a routine medical examination for a few days.
In March 2018, the former president was flown to Israel and was admitted to a hospital in the city of Tel Aviv for surgery.
In a statement at the time, Njiru said Moi had an operation on his knee “which has been troubling him for some time.” The problem began in 2006 after the car he was traveling in collided with another vehicle at Rukuma area in Limuru.
