Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested six people believed to be part of a carjacking and house break-ins gang that has been terrorizing residents in Nairobi and surrounding towns.
The DCI says the suspects were apprehended on Saturday in Nairobi’s Kilimani area after staging a violent robbery in Kitengela.
The suspects have been identified as Stephen Ngiru Kuria, Wilson Mutua Kitheka, Vincent Odhiambo, Elizabeth Akinyi Abuto, Lavender Akinyi Ogilo, and Quinter Adhiambo Ongi’no.
The suspects, who DCI describe as notorious criminals, have pending cases in court in connection to burglary and carjacking.
DCI says warrants of arrest had been issued against two of the suspects; Elizabeth and Lavender for absconding court and jumping bail respectively.
Detectives have confiscated two vehicles – Toyota Prado and Nissan Navara belonging to the suspects.
They were also found with several master keys, fake car number plates, masking tapes and a safe.
“Further investigations are ongoing before they are arraigned and charged in court,” DCI says.
DCI says the criminals mostly target foreigners in Nairobi’s Kilimani, Kileleshwa, and Upper Hill areas.
