Doctors to Harvest Kidneys from Kenyans Upon Death in Proposed Bill

A new Bill that seeks to allow doctors to harvest kidneys from fresh dead persons has been tabled in Parliament.

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) renal unit head John Ngigi says the Kenya National Blood Transfusion and Organ Transplantation Bill will help many Kenyans who are seeking organ transplants if MPs approve it.

“We also hope we can change the law to extract from friends, but we don’t want to open a Pandora’s box where people can buy kidneys. When the [proposed] bill is up we can harvest from dead people.”

Ngigi also says the proposed bill will operationalize the Health Act, which allows Kenyans, either in a written will or oral statement, to donate their bodies or body parts when they die.

“It will set proper frameworks for the donation of cadaveric tissues,” Ngigi notes.

Figures from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) show that about 4,300 Kenyans are currently undergoing dialysis across the country.

Last year, KNH said that 2,000 of those undergoing dialysis are on the waiting list for transplants but the facility only manages about 15 transplants a year.

Many transplant patients have been forced to remain on expensive dialysis after donors pulled out in the last minute.

Data by the Ministry of Health shows that only 466 patients have undergone transplants in public and private hospitals since 2006.

      • My only question is how many…
My only question is how many kidneys do the Kenyan doctors have to transplant before they are successful? 10, 15, 30? These doctors are not even required to have continuing education to maintain their licenses so some are using the medicine knowledge they learned 20-40 years ago. Some don’t even read independently for knowledge purposes so add some alcohol and you have disaster of significant proportion where the person needing the kidney ends up dead. This government should know they do not OWN the citizens! The citizens own the governmen. What makes you think I want to donate my kidney only to have it wasted because of incompetence? Or maybe the Chinese want these kidneys to lower the debt. They will start hunting us down like gazelles. Bure Kabisa!

  1. So now Kenyans do not have…
So now Kenyans do not have rights to their dead bodies anymore wtf!

  2. In a corrupt country like…
In a corrupt country like Kenya, this will trigger kidney theft and kidney black market where- The rich and corrupt are guaranteed a kidney. Doctors will be paid to harvest. Our court’s will be of no help because as usual they will be bribed.
If they pass this law, they must disclose the recipient of the harvested kidneys because if we later prove someone was killed for his kidneys through corruption, the family can go and pluck off the kidneys from the corrupt buyer.

This is a strategy to use the poor for the rich to survive. Those organs should be sold in a market for the living only.

  6. Wow wow in the west mainly…
Wow wow in the west mainly usa kunakuwanga na lots of issues to those who r donors juu huwa ineandikwa in yr licence.Do u know in states if ur dying n u happen to b an organ donor they won’t save you.Watch organ donors harvest in youtube in usa thou it’s worse in india n china.I had to remove my name as an organ donor in states when one genuine doctor told to how the organs r harvest especially if ur black juu our organs r healthier or can live longer compared with white pple they will not save u especially if u were involved kwa accident so to many in states remove yr name as organ donor??In kenya they will have to have permission like in usa to remove one as u will have to indicate on yr licence juu hapa kenya it will b worse kama india.

    • Jesus…. I need to remove…
Jesus…. I need to remove that sh** from my license. Do I have to go to DMV?

“Do u know in states if ur dying n u hqappen to b an organ donor they won’t save you” LIE NUMBER 1.

“they will not save u especially if u were involved kwa accident” LIE NUMBER 2

  7. If the cost of dialysis…
If the cost of dialysis makes it almost impossible for the poor to afford, how about a transplant? Most Kenyans are willing to danate their organs or even blood, but when it reaches the hands of qualified corrupt machinery, it becomes a huge unaffordable business that can only help a few whose bank accounts are fattened! Let me just rot with my organs being food for the termites instead!

  8. If passed, this would be a…
If passed, this would be a precursor to sale and purchase of human organs. Poor fellow does not stand a chance…No to the bill. The first thing we need to do in make our hospitals and doctors the pride of the nation. We should not hear of patients being carried on wheel barrows, and sharing hospital beds.I have not heard about it lately, but rats eating corps was pretty common, and that’s aNO.
As to having shortage of organs, we have to change our cul ture.I believe that not many know that they can still do very well with one Kidney.
No, no bill or law should be passed to curtain peoples’ choice. We should chose to donate.Period.What we need is massive education. And also eradicate counterproductive customs.
And NO, people with money already get preferential treatment. This bill will only solidify their status as a”breed” apart.
No. Even in so called advanced countries that we try to emulate their way of live, no such bill exist.
Even if a bill is proposed to harvest from “our cousins”the monkeys, and gorillas, the answer would still be NO.Because that will be only one step to make humans next.
Finally, as much as I appreciate the work physicians and other health care providers do, we cannot live for ever.Yes we should try our best to save, and prolong human lives, but should balance that against quality of life as well.

Has any one of you who have commented here ever had a loved one who needed a kidney transplant? Personally, I have. If this bill is passed, I will be among the first to volunteer. As for you die with yours intact. You may need them in the next world. You don’t want to go to heaven without your valuable organs.

  13. Introduce a consent to…
Introduce a consent to donate one’s organs upon transitioning to next life on the state ID. That way, whatever happens thereafter, is upon someone’s decision while they breathed air.. Otherwise, these doctors will be killing Wanjiku like no no one’s business for the sake of the rich and powerful. Talk of culling, like in the case of livestock.

    • That’s the way to go…I…
That’s the way to go…I agree @mteja…. FIND A WAY TO ASK FOR CONSENT TO DONATE not to pass a law… Kwani they have a right over our bodies?
The copy and paste (read copycat) parliament can safely copy and paste this from US ….on ID documents etc.

  14. It’s funny how they dont…
It’s funny how they dont want first to commit to research why the increasing of kidney diseases in kenya.

  15. The decision to donate any…
The decision to donate any organ is a personal issue that requires the patient to decide in advance before he or she becomes ill and or mentally incapacitated. The patient must be competent to give consent. The decision to harvest organs should not be made by the doctors since the patients do have rights to their organs even upon death.
