President Uhuru Reacts as Wave of Killings Rocks the Country

The wave of killings witnessed in various parts of the country in the recent past has caught the attention of President Kenyatta.

On Wednesday, Kenyatta directed law enforcement agencies to move with speed and stop the killings.

Uhuru issued the directive in his message of condolence to the family of Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago following the death of his brother John Kinyor in a suspected murder case.

Kinyor found dead in an unfinished building in the outskirts of Eldoret town on Monday.

“We have to get to the bottom of these murders. We can’t have a situation where we are confronted with cases of killings every single day. This is unacceptable,” the President said.

“Our law enforcement agencies should move with speed to bring these senseless killings to an end. Let us deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure the safety of Kenyans across the country.”

Kenyatta’s concern comes in the wake of killings in Matungu and Kilingili areas in the Western region.

Other cases include the murder of Parliament Police Station officer Hellen Kwamboka, Moi University student Ivy Wangechi, businesswoman Monica Kimani, Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, Murang’a prison warden Pauline Wangari, and Nakuru prison warder Caroline Chepchirchir among others.

“We cannot allow rogue elements in our midst to continue visiting violence on innocent Kenyans. The recent wave of killings in Matungu and other parts of the country is regrettable,” said Uhuru.

We have lost our moral compass.Killing ahuman being has become akin to killing a goat.Whats going on in our communities? What happened to being our brother’s keeper?Dont we value human life anymore?

Yes the police must do their work and apprehend the culprits. But police are only responding after the fact.Communities have to look hard at problems they face collectively. Yes if we have to right this sinking ship we have to be our brothers and sisters keepers.
Apparently the threat of burning in hell is not working.Lets try tough laws.Like hanging murders in public, and chopping off hands of thieves.

  3. Ndugu yangu @Maxiley: …
Ndugu yangu @Maxiley: Umenichekesha uliposema ya kwamba, “…Killing a human being has become akin to killing a goat.”

Nimecheka kwa sababu, mbuzi anapouawa na binadamu, huliwa. Lakini binadamu haliwi (is not eaten).

Kutoka kifo cha Gama Pio Pinto February 25, 1965 mpaka Ndugu Msando July 29, 2017, hakuna yeyote ambaye ameshikwa mpaka sasa!

    • @ Ndugu Imara, I just read…
@ Ndugu Imara, I just read in Standard paper that some officer sprayed 20a bullets at his wife and young daughter killing them. This happened in February,I dont know why its being reported now.I guess its because the killing issue is now in the air,or has presidents attention…
Anyway, Iwanted to add Ouko to that list of killings that have gone unsolved,or should I say, unwilling to be solved.Granted that some of these killing happened many years ago,and witness, and evidence may not be there now,or has been gotten rid of,a determined government can solve some of these killing. Take the recent killing of Msando, surely the killer is walking amongst us,and he did not do it alone so afew people know who the killer is.Now the question is, how can we make him come out and face his punishment? Again the threat of burning in hell eternally does not seem to scare people any more…

  4. Why issue a directive now…
Why issue a directive now just because a brother of a powerful person has been murdered? You were quiete when ordinary people in the country you lead were being killed! Mr. President your message would have been more powerful if you had given this directive when women were being killed for no reason. I remember you were even quiete when police brutally tortured primary school kids when your deputy wanted to annex their land! Not that I’m surprised, this has been the motto of your fellow power brokers in Kenya when it comes to defending the ordinary people. Whether people who are dying of hunger, being killed on unsafe roadways, being handed harsh jail time while politicians and people who have successfully corrupted their way out are given a week or so before the courts lose their paperwork’s, I could go on and on…

  5. The killlings are connected…
The killlings are connected to corruption and desperation that come with corruption. The whole Kenyan government and political class is rotten. This is so mainly because Kenyan electorate have been brainwashed regardless of their educational level. Since independence Kenyan presidents and politicians have been perpetuating tribal politics of divide and rule. This is still being fostered by Kenyatta, Raila, and Ruto. Having said that, I think if Uhuru and Raila really wanted to make meaningful change to anything in Kenya they could easily do so. They have power, authority and members in parliament to make it happen. The only thing they don’t have is the will to do it! How come anyone within Kenyatta or Raila has never tabled any legislation in parliament to tame corruption? It’s because they are eating together in private while preaching water to the poor public! I’m not mentioning Ruto because his name has now been forever associated with graft and now he’s running around in churches with the loot to appease the devil!

These two, Raila and Uhuru could easily pass stringent laws that prohibit corruption and hand mandatory long jail time to offenders and confiscate anything they took plus interest. This notion that if you successfully steal ten billion then you can pay one billion fine to avoid jail time is so stupid to say the least. Never in my lifetime have I seen anybody with money get jail time in Kenyan judicial system. Only poor people are languishing in Kenyan jails, many of them are actually innocent but there due to a rotten judicial system. In a country like Kenya a change can only happen if we have a strong leader with a big stick that hit at everyone who is blatantly guilty of corruption. We can neither rely on judiciary nor churches, they are all choking on corruption! And politicians are purely after getting rich on taxpayers money, what a shame! Even the so called MCAs want to be rich so fast they are desperately arm twisting one another in the process.

Every now and then government want to come up with some new thing to hoodwink the public that they are doing something…Huduma Namba, numerous referenda, new passports, among other stupid ideas not even worth my mentioning! All these things will never bring any change to Wanjiku, we’ve seen these ever since I was a child! Similar to Uhuru’s tough-talk.
Besides politicians who are eating together, everybody else is just confused either because they are hungry or because the tribal system has caught up with their thinking process!
My message would be meaningless if I don’t offer my take on the solution.

    1. Assume all members of parliament are corrupt therefore need to go ASAP
    2. Assume every member of the judiciary is corrupt and need to go ASAP
    3. We need an Arab-Spring event to sweep all these people out! Forget elections, it will never give any results since they control that too! It’s already rigged even before it starts.
    4. Once everyone of these are out, a transitional government for the people can be installed while stringent constitution is drafted. A people-based constitution, not system based.
    5. Once the constitution is drafted, we will need an educational system that teaches integrity from childhood and merit based appointments. We would also then elect an iron-fist ruler with people at heart. This is the only way to rally anything Kenyan. It was done in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea etc. and they are ripping the benefits. In those countries if you are caught in corruption, you are either hanged or go to jail for life and all the loot is collected! That’s my take.

  6. Ndugu @Jag:
    Wakenya…

    Ndugu @Jag:

  7. FYI: Mr. President
    Long…

    FYI: Mr. President

Long story short for the social injustice in any society is simply Poverty …. blah blah…………
…. in due time creates anxiety to Wananchi. Thus there’s where the saga begins. Get the point – maybe?. Nowadays in Kenya corruption is one of the acceptable factors just like Unemployment and inflation etc are.

If you really mean in the war on corruptions – pass a PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE POWER. Stating to curb and deal with the ongoing cases to be fully executed without any judicial, legislative influences and including the presidency of the republic are not above the law. On a major note a conduct of a periodically lifestyle audits for all civil servants.

  8. The killings will continue…
The killings will continue because they stem from a broken, hopeless, unregulated and thoroughly abused system. By default, it creates a domino effect. People are frustrated. The law enforcement you are talking about either have not been paid, or do not care to put their lives on the line for ‘nothing’. Mr. President those who are supposed to ‘enforce’ the law, are busy emulating the majority of those you have appointed to ‘help’ you govern. THEY ARE BUSY PILFERAGING THE COFFERS where they can. It is a lost cause. When you bring about social economic change, then psychological change will occur. Until then we are on a downward spiral. Alluta continua.

    ASANTE SANA NDUGU JAG.
