Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have seized 500 kilograms of dry khat at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement, the DCI says the dry khat was concealed as tea packets and was destined for the United States, Australia, as well as Austria.
The consignment from various exporters had been packaged in 52 bags, all branded as tea packets.
The seizure comes after Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials issued a seizure notice on the goods during the screening on Monday.
One suspect has been arrested in connection with the consignment as investigations continue.
Last week, authorities impounded 12 kilograms of heroin at the same airport. The drugs were stacked in two radio speakers and declared as traditional baskets and sandals.
The narcotics were reportedly destined for Monrovia, Liberia.
In March, detectives at JKIA arrested a Nigerian woman after she was found trafficking drugs believed to be heroin.
The foreigner was carrying 92 pellets of the narcotics concealed in plastic bottles containing milk. She later emitted 15 other pellets.
