Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal Arrested over Loss of Sh84 Million

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal over graft allegations.

In a statement, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji says Governor Lenolkulal has been arrested over the loss of more than Sh84 million public funds.

“During the period in question, Oryx Service Station received a total of Sh84,695,996.55 from the County Government. The aforesaid amount was shared between the Governor and his proxy Hesbon Ndathi (a businessman),” a statement from the DPP reads.

The DPP says the Governor failed to reveal his interest in the petrol station.

Lenolkulal has been apprehended at his Nairobi residence on Tuesday morning and has been driven to EACC headquarters for questioning.

He will be charged with conspiracy to commit economic crimes, abuse of office and conflict of interest alongside 13 other Samburu County government officials.

Samburu Deputy Governor Julius Leseeto, Stephen Letinina (county secretary), Danile Lenolkirina (Chief Finance Officer), Josephine Lenasalia (former Chief Officer Environment) and Reuben Lemunyete (Chief Officer Agriculture) are among those who will be charged together with the Governor.

Others are Linus Lenolngeje, Paul Lolmingani, Bernard Lesurmat, Lilian Baluga, Andrew Lanyasunya, David Loosenge, Geoffrey Kitewan, and Hesbon Ndathi.

Lenolkulal had been arrested on February 20th following a raid on his homes.

Later, EACC obtained court orders freezing properties belonging to him, among them four parcels of land in Karen, Nairobi, acquired at Sh15 million each.

Another dog and pony show in town! It’s called catch and release. Kindero, Ojaamong,Obando and many other high profile so called our leaders- famous thieves-looters and robbers were all arrested but not one is in prison today. The real question is, where is our money? Children dying of hunger, patients and dead bodies locked up in hospitals and mortuaries respectively due to lack of money. Meanwhile, those entrusted with our resources are living large in opulence and splendor wasting our hard earned tax money. Welcome to our devolved corruption. US has 50 States and 50 governors. Kenya which is the size of Texas has 47 counties and 47 governors- what happened to common sense?
