Police in Juja have shot dead five suspected gangsters in a botched robbery incident.
Juja DCIO Ali Samatar says the suspects were trying to raid Lexi petrol station at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday when police officers on patrol ambushed them.
Samatar says the five were gunned down during a fire exchange with police while one other suspect managed to escape.
“They were six of them and one luckily escaped but we are looking for him,” says Samatar.
Four firearms including three pistols were recovered from the felled gangsters.
“They were armed with three homemade pistols and an AK47 rifle. The one with the AK 47 rifle escaped,” Samatar adds.
Juja has witnessed a sharp increase in the number of armed robbery incidents in the past few months.
Two students from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been killed by suspected robbers in the past two months.
