Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has assured Kenyans that the country is safe following last week’s terror attack at DusitD2 complex in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
Speaking during a meeting with security heads from across the country at Flamingo Hotel in Mombasa, Matiang’i says that terrorism is a global challenge even as he assures that the government remains resolute to the war against terrorism.
“We are alert, and we remain alert. We remain resolute and committed to ensuring that our people are protected and any person who was directly or indirectly involved in the attack of Nairobi’s 14 Riverside Drive where 21 people lost their lives will soon be arrested,” says Matiangi.
CS Matiang’i further says the government has committed all available resources to boost coordination of security and intelligence in a bid to address terrorism and other security challenges.
“The multi-agency approach in the management of the security sector is here to stay and all of us, as the leaders must ensure effective coordination, information sharing and joint security actions in our respective areas of jurisdiction,” says Matiang’i.
He says the government will be reviewing initiatives such as the Nyumba Kumi and Community Policing as part of strategies to counter terrorism and crime.
“I urge you to work hard on the know your neighbor campaigns to encourage members of the general public to share information on security-related matters with the authorities in real time. We must encourage individual and collective responsibility for security amongst our people.”
He has commended security officers for responding swiftly to the 14 Riverside Drive attack and neutralizing the attackers.
Asante Bw Imara. Napenda…
Asante Bw Imara.
These type of statements…
These type of statements create the kind of complacency that lulls people’s alertness and awareness. The country is NOT safe, we’re in a state of war against a dangerous and evil terrorist organization and the country needs to maintain a permanent state of high alert. That is how Israel has managed to keep itself safe in the face of terrorism, not by making shallow politically correct statements.
So was the country safe last…
So was the country safe last week? What did you do between last week and now? Stop making empty statements.
