Deputy President William Ruto is not Jubilee Party’s automatic presidential candidate in 2022, Secretary-General Raphael Tuju says.

Tuju says the 2022 presidential flag bearer will be picked in accordance with the party’s constitution, which doesn’t provide for an automatic presidential ticket as postulated by Ruto’s allies.

“We have a president who is the party leader and we have a deputy President who is the deputy party leader… So that line -up is there, but we also have a constitution indicating how we appoint our candidate for presidential candidacy and as far as I am concerned nothing has changed,” Tuju says in an interview with Citizen TV.

“Even President Uhuru Kenyatta… It was not automatic that he was going to be the party candidate as at the time we were going for elections. We had to have a national delegates conference…” adds Tuju.

Tuju’s remarks come in the backdrop of Jubilee party vice-chairman David Murathe’s controversial sentiments about Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

Speaking last week, Murathe, a close ally of President Kenyatta said that the party and the Kikuyu community have no binding agreement with Ruto to support him in 2022. He said Ruto should retire in 2022 together with President Kenyatta.

“We have no MoU with anyone that we will support them in 2022. If he has any deal with Uhuru Kenyatta, then that is an agreement between the two of them,” said Murathe referring to Ruto.

“We Mt. Kenya community don’t have an agreement with DP to support him in 2022 unless it was between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, he should prepare to go home,” added Murathe.

“If you (Ruto) have led with Uhuru for two terms, what else do you want? We don’t know someone who will guard us but we know someone who will break us. We will take someone who will safeguard Mt Kenya.”

Other Kikuyus became IDPs (internally displaced persons), in other words, refugees in their own land. Ruto and your partner in crime, Raila, have you ever wondered what happened to the families of the people you BBQ Ed in a Church? What about those who were crippled, never able to fend for themselves again? What about those whose properties were destroyed? You burned children to death-because of voting but they were not even old enough to vote. Justice for the innocent Kenyans; victims of political madness will be achieved regardless of the delay and denial because we will never relent or forget!

    In a healthy democracy no one should be entitled to “inherit” the presidency regardless of how close one is/was to the seat of executive power. Political succession is a possible cause of instability and conflict. How ever emotive this subject may be, Murathe and Tuju are in order for bringing out this “elephant in the house” early so that other potential candidates do not remain in the political shadows (in fear of a preferred candidate) until its too late in the game. To remain in the game as long as it takes, DP spokespeople need to reshuffle their cards and learn to play along until they have a clear move. Too much talk is drawing undue negative political attention to your man as he strive mightily toward his goal. Spokespeople!, allow DP the space to” hold his friends close and his enemies closer” as every shrewd politician should. What DP needs is to warm up to a “team of rivals” and not a collection of henchmen and sycophants.

    Ruto is the man to beat in the race. He has the charisma and guts to hold power .the best thing for him now is to tell his henchmen to stop being to automatic. They are creating bad press for number two. They need give him space run his show. Although he needs foot soldiers for him ,they should not start firing all their bullets before the enemy show up. Their guns will be empty before the actual battle. They read too much in small things. They need to let him play his cards
