Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has released results of the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
Amina says the two best performing candidates tied at the top with 453 marks out of 500 while the top performer among candidates with special needs scored 446 marks.
A total of 527,294 candidates in the 2018 exams were boys while 525,070 were female candidates.
CS Amina says there is an improvement in performance compared to last year, with girls recording better performances than boys in English, Kiswahili and Kenya sign language.
On the other hand, male candidates performed better in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious Studies.
12,273 candidates scored more 400 marks in this year’s exams, a 1.17 percent increase from the 9,846 recorded last year.
Over 50 percent of the 2018 KCPE candidates got more than 250 marks. 2,177 candidates scored less than 100 marks.
Amina says the candidates will receive their admission letters before the start of Christmas celebrations.
“It is a directive by President Kenyatta that all the candidates break for Christmas while knowing the schools they have been selected to…There will be only one selection, we will do it once and it shall be done well,” says CS Amina.
Candidates can get their results by sending their index numbers via SMS to 20076.
