Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has rejected calls by a section of Kenyans online to run for the presidency in the next general elections.
Using hash tag #ApendeAsipendeMovement, Kenyans on Twitter vowed to ensure the performing governor seeks the country’s top seat in 2022, with some saying they were ready to sacrifice their time and resources to campaign for him.
The 64-year-old politician has however turned down the proposal to succeed President Kenyatta and is ready to retire from politics when his term as Makueni Governor expires in 2022.
“In my last term, I have pledged to work on the county agenda to my last day in office. That is my duty. That is our common work.”
“Obviously we deeply appreciate the goodwill extended to us from the rest of our countrymen and women,” Kibwana added.
In a Facebook post last week, Kibwana expressed his intention to hang his political boots in 2022, but Kenyans online rejected the move and vowed to make him President “whether he likes it or not.”
“I enjoy sitting, talking and walking with our people. When I leave public life, I will dearly miss this aspect of my public political life,” Kibwana said in a post.
Serving his second term as governor of Makueni, Prof Kibwana has won the hearts of many Kenyans with his humility and commitment to serving his county.
Smart man. Kenyans will hype…
Smart man. Kenyans will hype you up to the nth degree but when it comes to actual voting selective amnesia will kick in and they will vote in an unqualified but popular candidate. Then when things go south they come out of the woodwork expressing their regrets. Retire at the top of your game and then live in peace.
