More Trouble Piles on Migori Governor Obado as Bank Accounts are Frozen over Millions Wired to Foreign Accounts

It appears that trouble is not about to leave Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has frozen the embattled Governor’s bank accounts over suspicious transfer of millions of shillings to foreign accounts, reports The Star.

The publication says that the anti-graft watchdog made the move after discovering that Obado had allegedly irregularly wired county funds to bank accounts in Australia, Hong Kong and China registered under his children.

In documents filed in court, EACC revealed that suppliers suspected to Governor Obado’s proxies were awarded “inflated and fictitious tenders” amounting to Sh2.5 Billion.

The money was then wired to Obado’s children in Australia, Hong Kong and China. The dubious transactions are said to have been made in a span of five years.

“Preliminary investigations have raised reasonable suspicion that the embezzled public funds have been used by the governor, his wife and the said close proxies, the respondents herein, to accumulate property and illicit wealth,” EACC says.

Also frozen are accounts belonging to Governor Obado’s wife Hellen, Adhiambo Odie and five other people believed to be part of the scheme to loot public funds. Those whose bank accounts have also been disabled include Jared Peter Odoyo, Oluoch Kwaga, Ernest Omondi Owino and Joram Opala Otieno.

Others are Patroba Ochanda Otieno, Beatrice Akinyi Ogutu, Kennedy Odhiambo Akello and Kennedy Onyango Adongo.

This comes at a time when Governor Obado was arrested and set to be charged next week over the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Obado was on Friday questioned for several hours at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.

This came a day after DNA tests revealed that Obado fathered the seven-month-old unborn baby boy who was in Sharon’s womb before she was brutally killed.

“There are 99.99+% more chances that Zacharia Okoth Obado is the biological father of the donor of the DNA generated from the foetus that is Sharon Otieno’s child,” the DNA statement read.

Last week, Obado confirmed that he was in a love relationship with the 26-year-old student but denied any involvement in her murder.

“As a law abiding citizen, I want to state here very clearly that I have nothing… and absolutely nothing… to do with the cruel death of Sharon,” stated the embattled Governor during a press address last Wednesday.

The victim was stabbed eight times and succumbed to excessive bleeding, an autopsy report revealed.

    • @ Romeo23, the only way…
@ Romeo23, the only way monies can be accounted for,and crooks be hesitant to steal is if all public funds are made public so that all can poke holes in the budget, and ask questions. We have honest accountants out there who would volunteers to look into the budgets, and explain to the public what is going on. If these was in place, someone would have raise an alarm about the funds Odabo was putting in his kids names…
After all its public money why not make spending it public?
