Motorists to Park Vehicles in Nairobi Roads for Three Hours in Protest of Hiked Fuel Prices

The Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) has announced a three-hour protest in Nairobi over the increased prices of fuel.

In a statement, MAK urged all motorists to bring Nairobi to a standstill on Wednesday by parking their vehicles on the the roads for a period of three hours in protest of the hiked petrol and diesel prices.

“Please note that the protest against VAT high fuel prices set for Wednesday 22 August 2018 is still on. However, time for parking your vehicles on the road has been extended by 3 hours. That is from 7:30 A.M to 10.30 A.M,” MAK said in a statement on Twitter.

The increased levy on fuel products has faced resistance from various stakeholders since its announcement by the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich. Motorists want government to scrap off the 6 percent VAT that is to be levied on fuel beginning September 2018.

Matatu Owners Association through Chairman Simon Kimutai has already announced an increase in fare prices as a result of hiked fuel costs.
