Slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was previously married and had three children with her former husband. Daily Nation caught up with Sharon’s ex-husband, Bernard Okuta who is a teacher at Rapogi High School in Uriri, Migori County.
Speaking to the newspaper, Okuta declined to shed more light about his broken marriage with Sharon, noting that her death was emotive and it was not the right time to speak about it.
Although he said her killers are known, he urged people to stop spreading rumors about her death and let police complete their investigations.
“This matter is too emotive for me to comment. If I wanted to comment about it, I would have done so long ago. I would rather leave the matter to the police and other investigators to find out what happened. That is all I can say,” the soft-spoken Okuta said.
“What the spokesperson of the family said about the family of the deceased is enough. I will not say anything. Please go and talk to the police for more information,” he said.
Okuta has been teaching at Rapogi High School for the last four and a half years after he graduated from the University of Nairobi with an undergraduate degree in education in 2013.
The two are said to have separated last year, a few months after Sharon enrolled for a course at Rongo University. They had a son and two daughters.
“The two separated a few months after Sharon joined Rongo University. They separated due to marital problems and Sharon relocated to her parents’ home,” said an employee at the school.
Oh my, why did she leave…
Oh my, why did she leave such a handsome dude to go for a sponsor? There is high price that comes with sponsor. Most of them have STD because they have so many women in their lives
Kenya, if the guy were ugly…
Kenya, if the guy were ugly,would she have been justified to leave him? See handsome,or not, more that looks brought them together Iwould think then they realized they could not live together.Not much has been divulged in relation to how they lived as man and wife .Looking at the fellow tells you nothing about his personality.even the softspoken part,the journalist mentions, you have to talk to him to glean that.
Yes I a ware that a picture speaks athousand words,but you cannot assume that all are dandy.
May be she wanted more security.
Bitch Bitches they r known…
Bitch Bitches they r known to love money,cars,big houses n big names??Women n not all r evil @kenya.Even if u see a woman with 20 degrees or phd or even a President my grandfather told me they think or act like a kindergarten 4 yr old small daughter n truly I have witnessed that.Why start sleeping with somebody husband or even older dude like Gavana if it is not for money n fame????Bure kabisa sorry to say ladies out there got to b careful how u leave yr life.Sharon didn’t deserve to die n leave her kids but it’s something she could have avoided.So waswahili husema kuna vitendo zakunjitakia.
@Mkenya halisi, your…
@Mkenya halisi, your grandfather was not a smartest person. You took advice the wrong way and you have hold it for the rest of your life. Broaden your thinking capacity. When you were a child you were told children are bought from the market. It seems you still believe that because your father/mother told you so. “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me”.
@Kenya, you nailed it…
@Kenya, you nailed it. Mkenyahalisi is so ignorant i would like to know which world he is from.
@MkenyaHalisi you fail to…
@MkenyaHalisi you fail to mention the Governor knew he was sleeping around with a young woman not a 90 year old who can not reproduce. Knowing he had a job and prestige to protect he should have used a condom. If he was afraid his wife may find out and leave him use two condoms. If he felt he had enough kids and did not want another one he should have used three condoms. Use more condoms if stakes are high. If in the end the penis felt uncomfortable probably due to lack of circulation then stop the idea of sleeping around.
@ Mugikuyu, you bring up…
@ Mugikuyu, you bring up avery good point.The only way to assure that unintended pregnancy does not takes place is for the man to take matters in his hands(no pun intended/masterbation).Even if you trust that your sex partner has protection,take matters into your hands.Condoms have been known to burst in the process,or holes pinned in them.
The other day I said nothing good comes out of mpango wa kando,when looked in totality.

@Mugikuyu, wrong condom…
@Mugikuyu, wrong condom advice! NEVER EVER layer condoms, it’s very dangerous. “Double or triple-bagging condoms” increase the friction between the condoms during intercourse, making them rip or tear 93% of the time.
Haha! tihi! Hilarious.

Mkenya Halisi, seems like mommy issues and maybe ‘ditched by many exs syndrome’ is hurting ya. Takataka
I wholeheartedly disagree with your ridiculous sexist notions. I do not blame your papi for stereotyping, generalization and demeaning women, perfect example of ancient ways of building man’s fragile self-esteem and ego, I find It unbelievably offensive and moronic that you not only retained the primitive theories, but you also have the audacity to share it on this medium. I bet you believe that u have the right to ‘punish them whenever they behave like a 4 year old’. I guess the lady(bitch bitches as you put it)died because of her love for glamour and her juvenile nature not by the hands of an evil man who’d rather permanently silence one instead of taking responsibilities for their f’up. Good analysis buddy. Hope you don’t intend to pass down your precious grandpa wisdom.
P/S By adding ‘not all’ before a long unsubstantiated,baseless and fact-less rant about a certain group does not qualify or minimize your prejudice.

@Mkenya Halisi: SULUHISHO
“…my grandfather told me they (WOMEN) think or act like a kindergarten 4 yr old small daughter n truly I have witnessed that…”

@Mkenya halisi, ‘ladies act…
@Mkenya halisi, ‘ladies act n think smart thou they r not known to do so’. One size does not fit all. Just as I told you earlier you need to broaden your thinking capacity. Right now it is very tiny. Make discernment as an educated mature adult not according to what was passed to you by people who were not the quickest bunny in the forest. There some dudes who are wanatumiwa kama tissue paper. That does not mean all men wanatumiwa kama tissue paper and vice versa.
Bunch of stupid ass men in…
Bunch of stupid ass men in this forum with stupid ass comments. You are deviating from the main point. It speaks a lot about our society how women are perceived. If we don’t strengthen the confidence and love for our young daughters and keep reminding them how special they are and worth more than sleeping around with sugar daddies don’t you think we’ll not lose our girls to these senseless killings. Sharon wasn’t the first and neither was she the last. It can happen to any woman related to you. I mean, walk into any pub or restaurant or even any social gatherings in any major city, see how many young girls as young as ten years old involve themselves in prostitution. Yes we can blame their mothers for wasting time on Kilimani moms and not being good examples to their children but what about the men? Aren’t they the ones sleeping around with these underage girls or young ladies, young enough to be their daughters and granddaughters. It is an Abomination! I remember one time I had travelled and needed to fix my dreadlocks. I was briefly in Kisii town for work and the only place i could have them fixed was at a barber shop.
So this barber starts telling me about how he spent his evening after we exchanged greetings. That was in 2012. He started complimenting Kisii and how it has such a vibrant night life. And he was even more excited because he had had a wonderful night. So tunachapa tu story, i guess i make people comfortable and they tell me anything after meeting them for a short period. I get this a lot from my friends. The next words that came out of the barber’s mouth were so shocking i was almost paralyzed! He said that the previous night he had a nine year old girl. I was in shock! And he said, “Kwani iko nini? The girl’s mother brought her to me! People in Kuria marry off their daughters so young and some of them would travel all the way from Kuria to the vibrant Kisii town to hook their young daughters up for s** with older men, due to abject poverty!” His words. Not mine. I kept him talking. Got my phone out and started recording that pervert. Made an excuse, dashed out with half my head done. Went to the nearest police station. I made the police promise me that they would finyilia his makei ama wazigonge sawa sawa! I could not believe it! I was suffocating as this man went on and on bragging how if it was the last thing he would do in the world, he would die happy. I followed up with the case till i relocated here. They managed to trac down the mother who was afraid to press charges because it would implicate her as well. How many cases like these happen on a daily basis in Kenya or Africa? Why are we denying ourselves blessings.
