Deputy President William Ruto says he is not Jubilee Party’s 2022 presidential candidate.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Sunday night, Ruto said the ruling party has no automatic candidate and will conduct primaries to pick its presidential flag bearer for the 2022 elections.
The Deputy President said he will be contesting for the party’s nomination ticket, but is ready to back any candidate who beats him to the ticket.
“If I’m elected the Jubilee candidate, I’ll run as a Jubilee member. If I will not be nominated, I will support any other person the the party will pick. If it will be me I will want to be judged by my track record,” he said.
Ruto said he was proud with what he has achieved so far in politics and if his career ended today, he would go home happy.
“I have come from very far. If I were to end my career today as the Deputy President, I will go home a very happy Kenyan, that out of 45 million Kenyans, I have managed to achieve all this. I thank God.”
He further reiterated his earlier statement at a church in Nairobi that no person or any community owes him anything in regards to succeeding President Uhuru in 2022.
“I wanted to set the record straight today. No community, nobody, not even Uhuru Kenyatta, has a debt towards William Ruto. I am happy that I supported Uhuru Kenyatta and I’m happy with what we achieved,” he insisted.
